Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of his speech at the conference 'Processes of democratization and development in Angola', which takes place at the Catholic University of Angola, Fernando Macedo said that "whoever is in power exercises power permanently disrespecting the Constitution and the laws". .
Angola, he said, "has an authoritarian regime, a pseudo democracy", and added: "I hope that the insistent appeals that come from decades are heard by the leaders of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola [MPLA] and that the leaders of the MPLA refrain from re-conducting a fraudulent electoral process".
In statements to journalists, Fernando Macedo said he defended "resistance, revolution and peaceful rebellion."
"For me, the essential and desirable thing is that there are no fraudulent elections in August (...) if I am personally faced with another situation of fraudulent elections and if there are Angolans who want to peacefully express their discontent against fraudulent elections, I I have already said that I will, as always, be available to exercise my right of resistance in a peaceful way", he maintained.
Among the "worrying signs" that he said he had found, the university professor listed the "permanent violation in the public media of the duty of impartiality" and pointed out that the wide coverage given to the ruling party "impairs the electoral process, creates in people the idea that there is no alternative and that there is nothing to be done".
In addition to the issue of partiality in the public media, which has been criticized by analysts, Fernando Macedo also pointed to the case of publicizing the electoral register, that is, the list of voters and the places where they will vote.
"I vote and this is my wish that, in fact, the ruling party will put an end to its practices of violation of the Constitution and the law, this is what is desirable and this is my expectation: elections in August, without electoral fraud, and without electoral fraud, citizens will not need to exercise their right of resistance, revolution or peaceful rebellion", he concluded.
