Vaccination with second dose of AstraZeneca runs until June 10

The Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, announced that the vaccination of the second dose of AstraZeneca in the country will take place until the 10th of June and appealed to those already vaccinated to present themselves for the second dose.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Luanda, during which the minister insisted on the need to take two doses to ensure effective protection against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the covid-19 disease, stressing that the vaccines that are being administered are safe and certified.

Vaccination against covid-19 began in Angola on March 2, with AstraZeneca, joined by Sputnik, Sinopharm and Pfizer, which will start being administered to taxi drivers on Saturday.

"All of them require two doses," noted Sílvia Lutucuta, calling for people who took AstraZeneca to travel to vaccination centers, as the period for the second dose ends on 10 June.

"We will, from that point on, replace or start a new cycle for other people," she said, adding that the vaccination posts are open every day from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The government official admitted that some people had adverse effects, but few felt serious effects and these manifestations did not put their lives at risk, so they should take the second dose of the vaccine, a recommendation that can be extended to those who had covid-19 after the first dose.

The national director of public health, elga Freitas, said that 6246 institutions from the various sectors open for vaccination are registered and confirmed for vaccination, in a total of 959,454 registered users.

So far, 734,587 people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 364,532 with the second, totaling 1,099,119 people vaccinated nationwide.

With this number, the vaccination coverage rate rises to 56 percent (two doses) in the most exposed groups, covered in the first phase of the campaign (health professionals, teachers, elements of defense and security agencies, people over 65 years and comorbidities).
