Relying on technological means, the new block will perform surgeries for children diagnosed with cleft lip, with difficulties in speaking and swallowing food. Furthermore, the block will also be used to carry out operations in relation to urology, orchiditis, highly complex urology and urethral osterosis, writes Angop.
According to Lina Antunes, general director of the aforementioned hospital infrastructure, the block is also adapted to carry out minimal access maxillofacial surgeries and small cases of hernias.
The operation of this block will be ensured by seven professionals trained in the specialties of sterilization, intensive care and instrumentation, said the person in charge, speaking to Angop.
According to the general director, the hospital intends to perform surgeries with short anesthesia and minimal access to children who enter the operating room in the morning and are discharged in the late afternoon.
She also took the opportunity to announce that, in the near future, a hemotherapy room will be opened. According to Angop, this is a new service aimed at donating and preserving blood, with the only thing left to do is import the equipment.
It should be noted that the new pediatric operating room, which has already completed its work, is the result of a donation from Kids Operating Room (KidSor), a Scottish charity created in 2018 by Garreth and Nicola World and dedicated to installing operating rooms pediatric services in low-middle-income countries, aiming to ensure access to safe surgeries.
