Angola is preparing a National Cybersecurity Strategy against cyberattacks

The Minister of State for Economic Coordination said this Wednesday that Angola is developing a National Cybersecurity Strategy, which involves policies and measures to protect its critical systems and infrastructure against cyber attacks.

Manuel Nunes Júnior, who opened the 1st Expo Forum on Cybersecurity, said that this strategy should also include actions to raise awareness and educate the population about the importance of cybersecurity.

According to Manuel Nunes Júnior, in the context of this matter, the possibility of creating a cybersecurity agency and respective observatory to coordinate security initiatives across the country should also be considered.

The official stressed that the said agency will have the task of monitoring and responding to cyber threats in real time, as well as ensuring the supply and processing of data, with a view to creating increasingly consistent and realistic public policies.

"The legislation being prepared in the field of cybersecurity must include severe penalties for cyber crimes in order to deter attackers and malefactors," he said.

Manuel Nunes Júnior recommended that companies and government organizations invest in training and cybersecurity for their employees to ensure that they are aware of the risks and know how to contribute to the protection of company data.

With a view to increasing the quantity and quality of staff working in this field, a Cybersecurity Academy will be launched to prepare the market with technical staff, mainly young graduates in this area of knowledge.

During the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the company Itgest and the Instituto de Fomento da Sociedade de Informação that will create the aforementioned academy.

"Cybersecurity should not be seen as an issue that can be resolved only by the executive, it is everyone's responsibility as citizens and users of the cyber world and only together can the best solutions be found to foster a culture of cybersecurity in institutions and companies, adopting the best practices by investing in issues relating to digital and physical security, among other actions", he stressed.

The forum features a panel of debates, in which several ministers from the Finance, Energy and Water and Telecommunications portfolios, from the governor of the National Bank of Angola, are speakers, followed by several specialists in the field, namely in cybercrime and cybersecurity legislation.
