Luanda stage of the 1st Forum and Exhibition on Cybersecurity

Luanda will host, on the 10th of May, the 1st Forum and Exhibition on Cybersecurity. The announcement of the event's completion was made this Monday by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.

Speaking at a press conference, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário de Oliveira, referred that the event will bring together experts, specialists, representatives of public and private companies, aiming at the discussion of "network security strategies and information systems", with a view to "increasing the guarantees of free, safe and efficient use of cyberspace", says a statement from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, which VerAngola had access to.

Cited in the note, the official also admitted "the existence of a reality of insecurity and cybercrime" in the various sectors, "leading to the conclusion of a high exposure of information" and, given the situation, said he hoped that the event "help to bring together ideas for an effective solution".

In this context, adds the note, the event will focus on a round table with the theme "The vision of public entities on the impact of cyber attacks on their activity", where "the importance of Angolan legislation in combating to cybercrime, the impact of cybercrime prevention, and the security operations center at the service of government, public, and private cybersecurity".

According to Mário de Oliveira, nowadays cybersecurity "constitutes a fundamental element for the national economy, providing a good environment for foreign private investment", the statement reads.

The forum will also discuss the topic of setting up the Cybersecurity Academy, "alongside those already existing at the Telecommunications Institute (ITEL)", with a view to certifying young nationals, recent graduates in this field.

The holder of the Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication portfolio said that there is no point in having "laws and technologies without frameworks capable of responding to the issue of security at the level of national cyberspace", therefore "the installation of the Academy of Cybersecurity is urgent".

The note also notes that the event will bring together "important authorities in the country to discuss and present solutions to the challenges of cybersecurity, in an increasingly digital and interconnected era".

"In effect, the Internet and the information technology sector occupy more and more space, in the way we interact, how we work, how we deal with institutions and society in general. We build an interdependence of ICTs - Information and Communication Technologies – and digitization, which makes it increasingly difficult to think about the organization of our society without these instruments, which is why today, most conflicts, if not all of them, start in cyberspace", he said, quoted in the statement.
