UNITA welcomes the release of the bill on the right to demonstrate for discussion

The UNITA parliamentary group considered it positive that the MPLA “unblocked the discussion” of the draft law on Freedom of Assembly and Demonstration.

The leader of the parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Liberty Chiaka, said that the project had been submitted to the National Assembly in the last legislature, but had not been scheduled.

“We consider it positive that the MPLA [Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola] has unblocked the discussion of this bill, after all, in the last mandate there was a blockade, the project was sent, but it was not even scheduled for its discussion in general”, he stated.

Another initiative by the UNITA parliamentary group, continued Liberty Chiaka, concerns the draft law on the Exercise of the Right to Democratic Opposition, which will be submitted next week, after being updated.

Liberty Chiaka said that this project had already been submitted in the last term, at the beginning of last year, but it was not scheduled, because “there were several misunderstandings by the party in power”.

"We are now going back to the load and it could also be one of the subjects that we want to discuss with our MPLA colleagues", he stressed.

Within the framework of the de-partisanship of State institutions, Liberty Chiaka advanced that a bill on Incompatibilities in the Exercise of Public Offices will also be submitted.

“As the country is experiencing a crisis of partisanship in public administration, the country is experiencing a situation of clear, evident incompatibilities, we want to believe that this project will be positive, despite being an initiative of the UNITA parliamentary group, it will also be embraced by the parliamentary group of UNITA. MPLA and other political forces with parliamentary representation, we believe it will be a positive contribution to the democratization of our State”, he said.

The leader of the UNITA parliamentary group stressed that three major axes will guide the dialogue agenda with the MPLA parliamentary group, namely democracy, good governance and the country's development.

According to Liberty Chiaka, the UNITA parliamentary group formalized its willingness and availability to dialogue with the MPLA, having identified 10 major issues, which will be made known later.
