UAN elects rector for the first time in 20 years. It's Pedro Magalhães

The Full Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the Agostinho Neto University, Pedro Magalhães, 57 years old, was elected this Friday, by the members of the General Council, to the position of Rector of UAN. The act took place at the University Campus, in Luanda.

The List 1 candidate, Pedro Magalhães, was elected to the respective position with 24 votes from the 39 voters of the UAN Collegiate Body, beating the List 2 candidate, Padoca Calado (11 votes) and the List 3 candidate, Miguel Bettencourt (four votes). ), refers to a statement from the institution to which VerAngola had access.

It has been two decades since the university witnessed a new dean being directly elected.

The action program of the winning list has as its motto: "Innovate to transform the UAN". At the end of the election, Pedro Magalhães guaranteed to give his all to the institution he knows well: "It is people who make the institutions, so we will create procedures to facilitate the increase in the skills of teachers and students", he said, quoted by Angop. .

The new rector of UAN will be sworn in on Friday, the 20th of May, and will lead the destinies of the University for the next five years, being assisted by the vice-rector for the Academic Area, Fernanda dos Santos Benedito and the vice-rector for the Academic Area. Scientific, João Júnior Baptista.

Pedro Magalhães holds a PhD in Physiological Sciences from the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Brazil (2012), a Master's in Physiological Sciences from the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Brazil (2007) and a Degree in Medicine from the UAN (1998).

In 2018, he was appointed by the President of the Republic to hold, on an interim basis, the position of rector of Universidade Agostinho Neto.

Pedro Magalhães is thus the 12th rector in the management of the UAN and the 4th rector elected by direct vote.
