In a game played on Saturday, at the Kigali Arena, in Rwanda, Petro reached half-time winning (40-33), in a match that was always balanced. In the third period, the Angolans remained ahead, although under strong pressure. Some mistakes made did not allow, however, to widen the distance. The fourth period featured two draws, at 61 and 63 points.
However, in the final stretch and still winning – 59-57 – some ball losses and missed shots in both distances allowed Monastir to take the lead in the match. The Tunisians even sealed the victory by 11 points of difference (72-83).
Alongside 'Lukeny', base Childe Dundão and center Jone Pedro were highlighted by Petro. For Monastir, Dixon and Lahyani stood out, with 21 points each.
The Angolans are therefore content with second place in the competition, in what was also its second edition, even though a result superior to the third place achieved in the debut edition, in 2021.
José Neto elected the best coach of the competition
The remaining coaches of teams that participated in the African Basketball League distinguished the Brazilian José Neto, in charge of Petro de Luanda, as the best coach of the competition.
The information was confirmed on the club's own page on social networks, having been known even before the final dispute, which Petro lost against Monastir.
It is recalled that José Neto has a contract with the 'tricolors' until 2023, and he already has the conquest of two national championships (2021 and 2022), a third place in the first edition of BAL and now a second place in 2022.
José Neto also won four titles in his country, an Intercontinental Cup and a FIBA Americas League, all achieved between 2012 and 2016.
