Sao Tome president in Angola with “special attention” for security in the Gulf of Guinea

The President of São Tomé and Príncipe starts this Monday a three-day official visit to Angola to strengthen "historical and brotherly relations" and give "special attention" to the area of defense and security in the Gulf of Guinea.

"The aim of these official visits, despite the good relationship that already exists, both within the framework of institutional cooperation and of friendship relations, is to strengthen and improve even more", said Carlos Vila Nova at São Tomé international airport. , before your trip to Angola.

In addition to strengthening cooperation in traditional areas between the two countries, the Sao Tome head of state, who is accompanied by three members of the Sao Tome government and some parliamentarians, said that he intends to "open new perspectives for other areas.

"What unites us to Angola is very strong: they are cultural relationships, they are historical relationships, they are brotherhood relationships [...] Tomé and Príncipe, we are able to improve and do more and more for the benefit of our peoples and countries".

According to Carlos Vila Nova, Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe have agreements in several areas, specifying the area of ​​fisheries, "which still date from the period of the single party", as well as "relationships within the framework of general cooperation and investment protection, in the area of ​​defense and security".

"Today, many new things have united us: the situation in the Gulf of Guinea, both in terms of piracy and protection in terms of what is the existing capacity within the gulf to which we belong, both in Fishery Resources and in petroleum resources", added the head of state.

In this area, Carlos Vila Nova defended that "special attention must be paid to this" with Angola, but he added that he has already done this with other neighboring countries.

During his visit to Angola, Carlos Vila Nova also foresees meetings with representatives of associations of São Toméan communities in Angola, taking into account the legislative elections scheduled for 25 September.

This is Carlos Vila Nova's third official visit abroad, after having been to Equatorial Guinea and Portugal last month.
