11 de Novembro Stadium authorized by CAF to host international competitions

After an inspection by specialists from the African Football Confederation (CAF), the 11 de Novembro Stadium, in Luanda, is part of the range of venues authorized to host international games of competitions promoted by the organization.

In the case of Angola, only the infrastructure, with a capacity for 50 thousand people and built for the 2010 Nations Cup, is authorized to host these types of matches.

On the contrary, considered without conditions, are the official stadiums of the national teams of Senegal, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Mali, Central African Republic, Burundi, Eritrea, Chad, Gambia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Namibia, says Angop.

In this way, the national teams whose stadiums were not approved due to the lack of technical conditions to host the games, in this case of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will have to play the challenges away from home.

According to a source from the Angolan Football Federation, who confirmed that the 11 de Novembro Stadium will be the only one in the country considered "fit" by CAF, the positive endorsement is due to the fulfillment of guidelines given in 2020 during the visit of inspectors from the body. Improvements were made to lighting, changing rooms, a press gallery and the quality of the pitch.

According to Angop, in light of this evidence, it is likely that some countries will request the national stadium as an alternative for their qualification matches, with Namibia having already shown interest.

The 11 de Novembro Stadium is located in the urban district of Camama, in the municipality of Talatona, province of Luanda. It was built in 2010 to host nine games of the African Nations Cup that year, including the final.

Angola also has other sports venues, notably Tundavala (Huíla), Chiazi (Cabinda) and Ombaka (Benguela), all of which were also built in 2010.
