Covid-19: Police arrested almost 600 people in one week for violating the rules

The police arrested 589 people last week for violating the rules on the public calamity situation, and imposed 586 fines for not wearing the mandatory face mask due to covid-19, it was announced.

The information is contained in the weekly report of the National Police on the situation of Public Calamity, in the period between April 28 and 4 of this month, to which Lusa had access, presented this Wednesday in Luanda.

The balance, which aims to present the operational work carried out by the defense and security forces and the results achieved, indicates that, during the period under analysis, 23,989 activities were carried out, of which 10,459 awareness-raising actions, 6433 dispersions of agglomerations and 65 interventions in ceremonies funerals.

The results point to the arrest of 589 people, 358 of whom for breach of the national health fence, followed by 163 for disobedience to officials of the authorities, 60 for breach of the provincial health fence and eight for contempt of the official of the authority.

In the period in question, 337 vehicles were seized due to overcrowding, 186 sound mixing tables, 66 speakers and 23 computers, while the temporary closure of 15 commercial establishments for non-compliance with the closing time was also carried out.

586 fines were imposed on offenders, mostly for the non-mandatory use of facial masks, with 531 fined citizens, followed by 24 heads of restaurants and the like, resulting in the collection of 4.5 million kwanzas for the State.

As a relevant fact, the report points to the case of a national citizen, 21 years old, in the province of Zaire, municipality of Mbanza Congo, commune of Luvo, arrested for injury to a staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, with a sharp object.

The fact occurred when the police forces carried out routine patrolling and when they intervened in a cafeteria that was open outside the established period, "the accused and friends protested against the FDS [defense and security forces], hurled blunt objects, that hit the injured person causing serious injuries, "the report said.

Another constraint cited in the document refers to the insistence of some citizens to violate the sanitary fence, with a greater incidence in the provinces of Luanda, Cabinda, Zaire and Cunene, "an attitude that promotes the spread of the pandemic throughout the country".

The authorities' recommendations are for citizens to respect and accept the guidelines of the health services and the indications of the defense and security forces, "who with great sacrifice and risks work to mitigate the spread of the pandemic in families".
