Companies will have "minimum price reference" in national food

The Minister of Economy and Planning announced on Friday that the purchase of national consumer goods from producers will be at a "minimum price set by the state" as part of the economic relief measures due to covid-19.

:

Sérgio Santos, who was speaking at a videoconference in Luanda at a meeting with agri-food distribution agents on economic relief measures, considered that the producer "should not be in a situation of indigence".

"The purchase price will be stipulated by the Government to avoid putting the citizen or the company that produces in a situation of losses, the price we are going to set will be called the minimum reference price, below which no one will make that deal with State money," he said.

The government announced Friday that the 17.6 billion kwanza credit line from the Angolan Development Bank (BDA) to support companies due to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus has 1964 applications.

The BDA credit line, with a rate of 9 percent, a two-year maturity and a 180-day capital grace period, aims to finance the purchase of trade operators and distribution to national producers of products such as maize, cassava, wheat, rice, sugar and potatoes, amongst others.

For the government, a minimum reference price in the purchase of operators from national producers "aims to restore the effort of the person when producing".

The minister, who presented his arguments in an auditorium composed of agri-food operators, also asked for the "active participation of businessmen and union with the government" in solving the country's socio-economic problems.

"Only the Government and the entrepreneurs together are capable of facing the problems we have and turning them around, if we waste a lot of time arguing with each other this will not be any way to solve the problems we live", he stressed.

"As long as we waste time at war we won't be able to change the socio-economic situation of the country, we have to quickly come to realise that only together will we turn the problems around", he noted.

He added that it has to be the "Government and business against the country's problems".

"These problems are against us and only then will we be able to find common solutions", he added.
