Camões donates 275 thousand euros to Angola, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and Venezuela to fight the coronavirus

Camões - Cooperation and Language Institute contributed 275 thousand euros to combat covid-19 in Angola, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and Venezuela in the sectors of maternal and child health, food assistance, shelter and protection of displaced populations.

According to a statement on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Camões is thus associated with the "effort of the international community to respond to the calls made by various United Nations agencies to strengthen its humanitarian response capacity to pandemic crisis ".

The 275 thousand euros are destined to fight the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus in Angola, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and Venezuela, "strategic partner countries for Portuguese cooperation".

The Camões donation will be distributed through the World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), read in the same note.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 286,000 deaths and infected more than 4.1 million people in 195 countries and territories.
