According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço "went to the Pavilhão Gimno-Desportivo da Cidadela, where the wake of the former ball-to-the-basket star took place", where he greeted family members, "laid a wreath of flowers and left words of comfort and recognition in a message in the book of condolences".

In his message, the head of state said that the country had lost "one of its greatest sporting glories".

"It was with the deepest consternation that I learned of the premature death of basketball player Ângelo Victoriano, an event that mourns his family and Angolan sport as a whole", wrote João Lourenço.

"Angola is prematurely losing one of its greatest sporting glories, who was part of the winning generation responsible for immeasurable moments of joy for the Angolan people over the last few decades", adds the head of state.

The President of the Republic also said that "the example of determination, competence and discipline demonstrated in the sports venues where his chosen athlete class toured, confirmed by the titles he collected throughout his career, remains forever and ever".

João Lourenço concluded by giving "heartfelt condolences" to the family.

Remember that Ângelo Victoriano died last Saturday, aged 55, a victim of illness.
