Angola and Congo plan to create defense and security committee to strengthen cooperation

Angola and the Republic of Congo recommended this Thursday to create a defense and security committee to reinforce the monitoring and evaluation of cooperation in this field and to continue negotiations on Congo's debt with the Portuguese-speaking country.

:

The decisions are contained in the final communiqué of the eighth session of the Bilateral Cooperation Commission between the two countries, held between 18 and 20 April in the city of Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, released this Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting reviewed political, diplomatic, defense and security, economic, commercial and financial, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation.

The delegations also exchanged draft cooperation agreements on political consultations, a convention on judicial cooperation in civil, commercial and administrative matters, the constitution of the permanent defense and security commission and the organization and functioning regulations of the permanent joint subcommittee on defense and security.

Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public-Private Partnership of the Republic of Congo, led their respective delegations to the meeting.

The parties decided to speed up the finalization of the agreement projects within a period of six months, with a view to their signature during the working visit of the head of Congolese diplomacy to Luanda, scheduled for next November.

They recommended holding a meeting of experts in the field of finance in Luanda with a view to continuing negotiations on the Republic of Congo's debt to Angola, the amount of which was not revealed, and the implementation of the agreement on the reciprocal transfer of goods.

The relaunch of the work of the joint technical commission of cross-border experts and its committees, the implementation of a calendar of activities on the agreement on cross-border trade and the creation of a defense and security committee to reinforce the monitoring and evaluation of cooperation of the recommendations.

The delegations also recommended the need to hold an economic forum between the two countries, in view of the natural potential of the parties, and reaffirmed the relevant provisions of the agreement on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports between the two countries.

A tripartite meeting of the energy sector between Angola, Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of Congo should be held next May, in Luanda.

For Téte António, the atmosphere that guided this meeting, from beginning to end, is more than evident proof that relations between the two States are getting stronger, hoping that the adoption of the recommendations of that eighth session will consolidate the relationship.

"The meeting paves the way for both delegations to explore new areas of interest", said the official at the end of the meeting.
