Lawyers regret lack of dialogue with justice officials

The president of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) regretted this Thursday the “lack of dialogue” with the top of the country’s administration of justice, which has lasted for three years, for the “correction of various factors”, such as ethics forensic.

:

"We all want justice to have a better performance, better results, effectively this will go through dialogue between the forensic professions, which does not exist, and a concertation on the main issues to be resolved", said this Thursday Luís Paulo Monteiro.

Speaking at the end of the inauguration ceremony of the headquarters building of the Attorney General's Office (PGR), in Luanda, the chairman stated that the OAA "has been calling for a dialogue with the top of justice for three years, because there are several aspects to "be fixed".

The OAA "has been crying out in the desert, it intends to meet with the top of the administration of justice, the leaders of the superior courts, the PGR and other bodies that intervene in the administration of justice", he said.

"Because if there is this dialogue, even the claims of judicial officials and unions in general will be quelled, because there are fundamental issues to be resolved, these are issues that are ongoing, from our point of view, from this lack of meetings between the leaders of the judicial power," he noted.

According to Luís Paulo Monteiro, there are several issues that must be corrected in the Angolan judicial system, namely linked to legislation, related to justice, procedures and the ethical component of the actors in the process.

"Judges, leaders of organizations in general have to be the example and we have been noticing that there are several issues that arise from the ethical forum and we, OAA, intend that this issue be reviewed, improved and corrected", he defended.

"We understand that justice is only done by complying with procedures", he pointed out, believing in the "correction of some aspects that are not well in the functioning of justice", especially with the reappointment of Hélder Pitta Gróz as attorney general.

He also welcomed the new facilities of the PGR, inaugurated this Thursday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, considering it to be a very important step for the exercise of forensic professions, particularly for judges.

"We think so, that the building also has enough spaces for law, since, as you know, it is one of the professions that has the most interaction with public prosecutors", concluded the lawyer.

Located on Rua Moisés Cardoso, also known as Rua da SINFO, in the center of the capital, the headquarters building of the PGR built in an area of 21,000 square meters, has 16 floors, namely 11 floors above ground and five below ground.

The infrastructure also has training rooms and other facilities for the accommodation of magistrates, administrative staff and justice technicians from that legality tax body.
