Pensions to be paid outside the BPC starting this month

As of this month, the Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC) is no longer the only bank that pays pensions. With this new measure, pensioners will now be able to choose whether to receive their retirement in a different bank or through an automatic payment system.

Anselmo Monteiro, general director of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), explained that for now the measure will include pensioners who turned the age in January and February. After this initial phase, the pensioners will choose the bank of their preference in sequence.

Cited by Angop, the official stressed that after the IBAN or the preference of a new bank is confirmed, the pensioners will start receiving their pensions in the following month.

The pensioners who have a commitment or debt with BPC will first have to regularize the situation in order to switch to another bank, he stressed.

"Account changes will only be made in person, at the service agencies, during the proof of life process," Anselmo Monteiro clarified, adding that pensioners must go to an INSS agency with their Identity Card and a proof of bank with the new bank coordinate.

To hasten the process, the Social Security agencies will start being open on Saturdays, between 08:00 and 12:00.

"We did the launch of the campaign, which aims at simplification through the agreement we had so that in a clear way the INSS becomes a virtual bank. Where the banking operations will be executed by the institution itself and we will have the opportunity to diversify the financial flow to the other commercial banks," he said, considering that this change will simplify the pension payment process as well as improve the quality of life of the pensioners.

Recall that in November last year it was announced that the BPC would no longer be the only bank to pay pensions. the measure aims to "reduce pressure" on the bank, which is being restructured.
