According to the also Minister of State and head of the Security House of the President of the Republic, the Government “has devised” a program aimed at the basic food basket, within which a series of visits by the multi-sectoral commission to the provinces are scheduled to take. part of that help for those most in need.

"So it has already happened in the province in Namibe, Cunene and we will surely get to know in other parts of our country where help is most needed," he said.

Pedro Sebastião recalled in this regard that Angola was recently involved in a program to combat drought in the south of the country in which “the Government was called to a tremendously great effort to assist the populations” and will now be able to use the entire logistical line set up at that time.

Asked about the help that the executive could give to companies, the government official stated that “a set of programs that he previously established” is being used and that aim at the postponement of the payment of taxes and the subsequent regularization of certain acts “in order to facilitate life ”to companies.

With regard to the wages he considered “the Achilles' heel” for workers, Pedro Sebastião admitted that “non-production” during the period in which the state of emergency is going on will create difficulties for companies.

“The Government is attentive and is creating all the incentives to help, not only to help companies”, but also to respond “to the concerns that are raised to the populations”, stressed the coordinator.

During almost three hours of press conference, during which a review of the first week of the state of emergency in Angola was made, Pedro Sebastião and the ministers of Health, Transport, Interior, Trade and Social Communication and the provincial governor of Luanda repeatedly reiterated the call to the population to stay at home during this period.

The state of emergency following the covid-19 pandemic was declared on 27 March and extends until 11 April, including measures that limit the movement of people, clusters of people and the operation of commercial establishments.

However, throughout the week, especially in Luanda, there were some clusters, particularly close to markets, with many Angolans complaining of having no alternative but to continue to leave to ensure their daily survival.
