Healthcare professionals and users forced to wear masks in hospitals

Healthcare professionals and users in hospitals will be required to wear a mask. The measure, which aims to reduce the risk of covid-19 spreading, was announced by the National Public Health Director, Helga Freitas.

:

Helga Freitas said that healthcare professionals treating possible cases of covid-19 will have to wear an n95 mask - a more advanced model than the usual surgical mask. However, Helga Freitas also said that other professionals who are working in hospital units but do not deal directly with covid-19 cases will have to wear a surgical mask.

Also the patients who usually attend these spaces will have to wear a mask.

The Ministry of Health has advised the rest of the population to wear a mask when in public places.

"Last Wednesday, the Ministry of Health launched a technical file to guide citizens in the correct form of fabric or cotton mask manufacture, as well as its use," he said, quoted by Angop.

However, the national director of public health reminded that wearing only a mask "does not protect from the transmission of covid-19", saying that citizens should complement this behaviour with the other norms: frequently wash their hands with soap and water, comply with social distancing and disinfect surfaces with bleach.
