According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the head of state left for Cairo, capital of Egypt, in the middle of the morning this Monday.
"At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Vice President of the Republic, Ministers of State and other government officials presented farewell greetings to the Head of State," the note says.
João Lourenço travels to Egypt as acting President of the African Union, and the summit is scheduled for this Tuesday.
"The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, in his capacity as acting President of the African Union, will participate tomorrow [Tuesday] in the extraordinary summit of the Arab League in Cairo, convened to assess the situation in the Gaza Strip and its current and immediate future," the statement said.
The summit seeks to "find a common position among Arab states in the face of what is being seen in some latitudes – fundamentally in the Washington-Tel Aviv axis" –, in which solutions are being considered that could represent "the liquidation of the Palestinian cause", according to Egyptian President Al-Sissi.
According to the statement, the Arab League is currently chaired by Bahrain and "the initiative for this meeting fell to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi of Egypt, who mobilized other nations of the Arab world, which naturally includes Bahrain."
It is worth remembering that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, assumed the rotating presidency of the African Union in February.
