Angola records 123 more cases of cholera and four deaths

Angola reported 123 more cases of cholera and four deaths, bringing the total to 5872 cases and 208 deaths since the outbreak was declared on January 7.

According to the latest bulletin from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) released on Monday night, 123 more cases of cholera were registered, 72 of which were in the province of Luanda, the epicentre of the disease which has already spread to 13 of the 21 provinces.

Luanda, with 3035 records, and Bengo, with 2031 notifications, concentrate most of the 5872 cases accumulated so far, between 2 and 100 years.

There have been 208 deaths since the start of the outbreak, mainly of children between 2 and 5 years old (38) and between 10 and 14 years old (15).

Cholera is an infectious disease associated with poor hygiene and water supply and sanitation conditions.
