Parliament gives 'green light' to the adoption of three minors

Three requests for authorization for the international adoption of three minors, namely Rafaela Ferreira, Alice Maria and Isabel Kieza, were approved by the National Assembly. The documents passed the scrutiny of the deputies with 141 votes in favor, none against, as well as no abstentions.

The approval took place at the 4th Ordinary Plenary Meeting, which took place last Friday and was closed by the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, with a statement of congratulations and thanks.

On the occasion, Carolina Cerqueira praised the altruism of the adoptive parents of the three minors.

"I would like to express congratulations and thanks to the adoptive parents of the three children, Rafaela Ferreira, Isabel Kieza and Alice Maria, for the noble gesture of altruism and unconditional love, which takes place today, in the month of March, in which we celebrate Women's Day and Father's Day", pointed out Carolina Cerqueira, who, quoted in a statement from parliament, to which VerAngola had access, also said that "such a gesture has a very special meaning for all deputies".

The president of the National Assembly also expressed "the desire that adopted children continue to be embraced with love, care, respect and the care that, unfortunately, not all children still have".

She also took the opportunity to hope that "values and principles will be instilled in them so that in the future they will be noble and exemplary citizens", the note reads.

At the end of her intervention, the parliamentary leader said that, "as legitimate representatives of the people, the deputies hope that all children in Angola continue to be an absolute priority for the family, the State and society".

The vote on the requests was unanimous and, according to the statement, the documents were voted on separately and received "the positive approval of parliamentarians".

João Tiago do Amaral Fonseca and Ana Paula Moura dos Santos Quelhas, both of Portuguese nationality, are the applicants for the adoption of Alice Maria.

According to Angop, the minor was born on May 4, 2018, and is the daughter of unknown parents, who abandoned her in the first days of her life, and ended up being welcomed by the Viana Social Action Reception Center.

The application for adoption of Isabel Kieza was filed by Rómulo de Santa Rita Vaz e Alves, of Portuguese nationality, and Raquel Carina Oliveira de Sousa Capitão, of Angolan nationality.

Isabel Kieza's mother has already died, so the minor lived with her father, who has problems with alcohol, ending up being abandoned on the street in the first months of her life, with no one knowing where her father is. Isabel was welcomed by the Viana Reception Center (Kikuxi), where she lived for a year.

Finally, Luís Alexandre de Sá Abrantes, of Portuguese nationality, and Denise Solavia da Cunha Ribeiro Abrantes, of Angolan nationality, were applicants for the adoption of Rafaela Alexandra Ferreira, daughter of Cláudia Lucinda Ferreira and an unknown father.

According to Angop, Rafaela's mother does not have the emotional and financial conditions, not opposing the adoption request, giving her consent to do so.

It should be noted that the five-year-old minor has been in the custody of the applicants since approximately July 2022.
