Value of operations at Bodiva increased by 60 percent in 2022

The value of operations at the Angolan Debt and Stock Exchange (Bodiva) increased by 60.2 percent in 2022, reaching 1.56 billion kwanzas, the institution announced this Wednesday.

The executive director of the stock exchange, Odair Costa, said that 2022 was "a historic year" for the stock market in Angola, with 5,746 trades registered in the markets regulated by the institution, which this Wednesday presented the annual report of Bodiva's markets.

According to the official, who presented the report during the IV Bodiva Forum, the average annual growth rate registered in the last seven years was 14.29 percent.

The average quarterly amount of trades in regulated markets was 391.2 billion kwanzas and the third quarter was the period in which the most trading took place, with around 606.3 billion kwanzas.

Regarding the number of trades carried out, there was an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year, with a total of 5,746 trades carried out during the year, with a quarterly average of 1,437 trades.

The average annual business growth seen between 2016 and 2022 was 38.80 percent, as can be read in the document.

According to the Bodiva 2022 Annual Market Report, treasury bonds (OT-NR) continue to have a very large weight in the amount traded (72.27 percent), followed by dollar-indexed bonds (18.90 percent).

Regarding the amount traded per year of maturity, in comparison with previous periods, "the trend towards concentration in securities with a residual maturity of up to 3 years is confirmed", 77.92 percent of the amount traded.

Regarding the performance of intermediation agents, Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA) leads the top, followed by Banco Angolano de Investimentos (BAI), Standard Bank Angola (SBA), Banco Millennium Atlântico (BMA) and Banco de Poupança and Credit (BPC).

Transactions by BFA, BAI, SBA, BMA and BPC, trading and settlement members, accounted for around 63.73 percent of the Bóvida market last year.

BFA maintains market leadership, with a traded amount of 625.01 billion kwanzas, with a market share of 23.52 percent. BAI comes in second, trading 457.32 billion kwanzas and saw its market share rise to 17.21 percent.

Regarding the performance by members, referring to the winning position, it appears that BAI maintains the leadership with a market share of 23.22 percent, followed by BFA and BPC, with a share of 20.48 percent and 13.54 percent respectively.

As for the Central de Custódia de Valores Mobiliários de Angola (CEVAMA) until December 30, 2022, it had a total of 64,031 active accounts, and in 2022 39,158 individual registration accounts were opened.

Odair Costa highlighted the launches of the Report Operations Market ("Repos"), the Unit Exchange Market, the Initial Public Offerings (IPO) of BAI and Banco Caixa Geral Angola (BCGA), listed on the stock exchange since 2022, the Small and Medium Enterprises Market, the Investor's Wallet, an online portal, and the dollar-denominated securities trading segment that signaled the "growth" of the stock market in 2022.

"What Bodiva intends is for this market to be a complement to what the interbank money market is and to help transact liquidity with a reduction in risk due to the existence of capital and also a greater operational inclusion of Bodiva in physical settlement processes financial and also greater fiscal efficiency", pointed out the stock exchange administrator.

The chairman of Bodiva's board of directors, Valentina Filipe, highlighted, in her opening speech, the importance of the forum's theme, "growing market", which reflects the achievements achieved in 2022.

"We highlight the activation of the stock exchange market, the entry into the stock exchange of BAI and BGCA and others that lead us to conclude that they are just the blossoming of more ambitious challenges and objectives in which the issuance of sustainable bonds is inserted", he stressed.

The Stock Market Growth on the Stock Exchanges of Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP) and the Stock Market and Sustainable Financing were the topics discussed at the meeting, which also included the presidents of the Mozambican and Cape Verde stock exchanges.
