Vice-president of the Court of Auditors assumes interim presidency

The vice-president of the Court of Auditors, Domingas Alexandre, will take over the presidency of that superior court, after the Judiciary Council (CSMJ) accepted the resignation request of the former president, Exalgina Gambôa.

The information provided to the press by the CSMJ spokesperson, Correia Bartolomeu, reports that that judicial body considered the resignation request submitted by Exalgina Gambôa and “resolved to accept this resignation request, both from the position of presiding judge and from the function of counselor of the Court of Auditors”.

“Subsidiarily, it also appreciated the information contained in one of the information that the plenary of the Court of Auditors sent to the council, noting that the venerable vice-president judge of the Court of Auditors is effectively, by force of law, to exercise the function temporarily of presiding counselor judge of the Court of Auditors”, he said.

The resigning president of the Court of Auditors (TdC), Exalgina Gambôa, resigned last Wednesday to the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, informing the Superior Council of the Judiciary Magistracy, one day after being accused of crimes of extortion, embezzlement and corruption, in a case that also includes his son Hailé Vicente da Cruz, who is also accused.

Last Monday, João Lourenço announced that he had invited Exalgina Gambôa to resign on February 21, due to various "occurrences" that involved her, but the judge only resigned two days later, after asking for early retirement and being constituted defendant.

A new tender should be opened in the next 60 days to fill the vacancy at the Court of Auditors.
