According to a balance sheet released by PetroAngola on its website, the country reached peak oil production in 2008, with almost two million barrels of oil per day. However, Angola has been suffering a drop in production due to the maturing of its oil fields, among other factors.

In relation to last year's figures, Angola produced an average of 1.124 million barrels of oil per day, corresponding to a decrease of around 12 percent compared to the production in 2020 (1.272 million barrels of oil per day).

According to PetroAngola, the country has decided to implement a package of measures aimed at counteracting the decline in production. Among the measures is the maintenance of equipment in some blocks, among other operations.

The first position in the ranking is occupied by Nigeria, which in 2021 produced 1.312 million barrels of oil per day. In second place comes Libya, with a production of around 1.207 million barrels of oil per day last year.

As for oil reserves, Angola ranks fourth in the list of producers on the continent with the largest reserves. The country has an estimated reserve of 7.23 billion barrels, writes PetroAngola.

First is Libya (48.36 billion barrels), followed by Nigeria (37.07 billion).
