Restructuring project of the Praia Morena marginal will be resumed

The project to restructure the marginal from Praia Morena to the mouth of the Rio Cavaco will come out of the box: stalled for lack of funds, the project will be resumed through the Benguela Integrated Infrastructure Program.

A new waterfront, with a boardwalk and a cycle path, which will connect the Palace to Praia Morena to the mouth of the Rio Cavaco, is foreseen in the project that will be implemented "now".

Speaking to Angop, Adilson Gonçalves, deputy governor of Benguela for Technical Services and Infrastructures, explained that "in physical terms" the new marginal has not yet started, with "survey work" being carried out on the 560 residences that will be demolished because they are located on the circuit where the future marginal will pass.

"In physical terms, it hasn't started yet. We just started with the work of surveying the residences on the perimeter where this avenue will cross", he indicated.

He also added that all infrastructure within the avenue area will be demolished, with the exception of two restaurants that are not within the contour of the road.

Regarding the evacuees, the official assured that the residents of those homes – which belong mostly to fishermen from the Matadouro neighborhood, next to the sand – will be relocated in a neighborhood along the Benguela/Baía Farta road, where the executive estimates to build 450 homes.

Regarding the remaining families to be relocated, Adilson Gonçalves said that they should be placed in an area that is still being studied, between the neighborhoods of Tchipiandalo or Kawango.

The project is part of the Benguela Integrated Infrastructure Program, which began in January.
