Goods imported to combat covid-19 exempt from VAT

The Government will exempt all goods imported for the purpose of humanitarian aid and donations in the context of combating the pandemic caused by the new Value Added Tax (VAT) coronavirus and customs duties.

The information was released by Finance Minister Vera Daves, who was speaking at the end of the third ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, held in Luanda, under the guidance of President João Lourenço.

"We do not want to tax all companies that intend to help, join efforts with the State in this initiative to fight the covid-19 pandemic and make food available to the population," said the minister.

According to the minister, the Government decided to captivate 30 percent of expenses in the goods and services category as long as they are not related to food, cleaning, medicines and sanitation, to suspend part of capital expenditures that do not have guaranteed financing, with emphasis on real estate acquisitions in the at home and abroad.

Vera Daves also announced the suspension of most development support expenses and additional credits, except personnel expenses, and the freezing of new admissions and promotions in the civil service.

Executive members' travel will also be reduced "to what is strictly necessary when normality is restored", and the priority and range of vehicles assigned to public and personal use managers will also be redefined.

Nationalized food exports, as well as nationalized medical equipment, including transhipments by inhabitants of border areas, will also be suspended.
