These data do not yet account for the two deaths announced on Sunday in Angola, which brings the number of fatalities associated with the new coronavirus to 20 in African countries.

There are still 335 recovered patients.

North Africa is the region with the highest number of cases and deaths associated with the disease, accounting for 1922 infections, 105 deaths and 223 recovered patients. In southern Africa, there are 1346 infected, four dead and 31 people have recovered. West Africa records 861 cases of infection, which resulted in 22 deaths and 66 recoveries.

In Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola confirmed seven cases of infection with the new coronavirus, having recorded the first two deaths associated with covid-19, Cape Verde records six cases and one death, Mozambique confirmed eight, the same number as Guinea-Bissau.

In Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, the authorities confirmed 14 positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus.

Of the Portuguese-speaking countries, only São Tomé and Príncipe has no confirmed case.

The Africa CDC indicated that of the 55 countries and territories that are members of the African Union, 24 decreed the total closure of borders, 10 suspended international flights and 14 imposed restrictions on travel or the entry of foreigners from certain countries.

Most member states have mandated quarantine for travelers from countries at risk.

The new coronavirus, responsible for the covid-19 pandemic, has already infected more than 700,000 people worldwide, of whom more than 33,000 have died.

After appearing in China in December, the outbreak spread across the world, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a pandemic.
