René Tavares, a Santomean artist considered one of the most talented and influential artists in Africa by Joburg Art Fair, will present, from March 21, at Galeria Banco Económico, the first individual exhibition in Angola with the theme “Migrations and Things, Patches of a History Only ”.
Heritage is the main theme of a series of works in which René Tavares seeks, through painting, photography, drawing and installation, indefinite areas of artistic, aesthetic and visual creation. A journey that began when addressing the issue of “Creole identity”, itself a result of migratory dynamics that are invariably transformed into something new and alive. An example of this is Tchiloli, a traditional Sao Tome show that has been extensively investigated, portrayed and reinvented by René Tavares in his works.
The exhibition can be visited until May 27, from Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 19:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00.
