Speaking on Tuesday at the closing of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, which took place in France, the IMA director said that "adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) is an essential path for the country's digital transition agenda".

Implementing AI-based solutions will contribute to improving public services, said the official, quoted in a government statement, to which VerAngola had access.

According to Meick Afonso, "the implementation of solutions based on artificial intelligence will allow for greater efficiency in public services, promoting data interoperability and adaptation to the life cycle of citizens and companies".

He also added that "developing countries need to invest in robust digital infrastructures to ensure the operation of the main artificial intelligence platforms".

"On the other hand, he highlighted the importance of training local talent, establishing strategic partnerships with international entities, as well as social and economic inclusion as pillars for the success of the digital transition", reads the statement.

On the occasion, the director of the IMA mentioned studies that indicate "growth and economic impact in the order of more than 17 billion dollars by 2030".

"The summit took place in a context of exploring opportunities for the adoption of public policies and regulation of the use of artificial intelligence in Angola, an increasingly relevant topic today, as considered by the director of the Institute for Administrative Modernization (IMA), Meick Afonso", the statement reads.

The event brought together several figures from the global political, technological and business scene, such as António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, JD Vance, Vice President of the United States, among others.

"On the subject, US Vice President JD Vance warned that excessive regulation could paralyze the AI industry, and emphasized the US's deregulated approach to promoting innovation", the statement says.

The President of the European Commission said that Europe wants to "be one of the leading continents in AI and, as an example, announced the mobilization of substantial investments in this area of technology", while the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, highlighted "his country's commitment to simplifying regulatory processes and attracting investments in AI, as well as announcing significant investments in the sector, positioning Europe as a third way between the US and China".

"During the meeting, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, co-organizer of the event, defended the use of artificial intelligence for social inclusion, guaranteeing access for all, and announced that the second edition will be held in his country in 2026", the statement also reads.

At the summit – held this Monday and Tuesday in Paris –, the country was represented by a delegation led by Adão de Almeida, Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic.
