According to the Angolan Public Television (TPA), the incident allegedly occurred following a police chase after criminals who had attempted to rob the school, with the exchange of gunfire resulting in the death of the student.
For the time being, the police, through the voice of Nestor Goubel, spokesperson for the National Police in Luanda, say it is still "too early" to identify the origin of the shot that killed the eight-year-old student, writes the Jornal de Angola.
In an interview with TPA, Nestor Goubel said that a specialized team was sent to the scene, the Colégio Elizângela Filomena, to carry out forensic examinations.
"We cannot confirm that there was an exchange of gunfire, there is a lot of speculation", he said, adding that an exhaustive assessment will be carried out to determine what happened.
For now, classes at the school have been interrupted, creating an atmosphere of pain and emotion among the school community and guardians.
The incident was reported at 8:40 am, with the third-grade student being rescued and transported in a serious condition to the Espírito Santo Clinic, but she did not survive her injuries.
