In a statement issued Thursday, Lucapa Diamond Company, which has a 39 percent participation in the Minas Gerais Society of Lulo, announced the “Pacific End of Block” started on February 3 and said it will review the Aluvial Extraction Plan To try to mitigate the impact of the stoppage and recover delays.
The Lulo Mine, in the province of Lunda Norte, is known for producing some of Angola's largest and rarest diamonds, and is explored by a society that is part of Australian Lucapa, the Endiama state diamond (51 percent) and Roses & Petals ( 10 percent).
The Minas Gerais Society of Lulo (SML) said that processing continued during the blockade, with recovery of gravel diamonds and mining waste thus ensuring that the recovery of carats remains in line with the objectives of the month.
SML also reaffirmed that it maintains its commitment to existing social programs for the local community, which continue during the mine's life.
