Costa ensures EU commitment to João Lourenço as Angola prepares to preside over the AU

The President of the European Council, António Costa, assured President João Lourenço of the diplomatic “commitment” of the European Union (EU), expressing “best wishes” when Angola is about to assume the presidency of the African Union (AU).

:

"It was a pleasure to speak with the President of Angola, João Lourenço. I reaffirmed the EU's commitment to intensifying our bilateral relations and expressed my best wishes to Angola as it prepares to assume the rotating presidency of the African Union in a few days' time," wrote António Costa, in a post on the social network X.

In the message, published in English and Portuguese at the end of the telephone call, António Costa also said he "looks forward to the EU-AU bilateral summit later this year".

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, will assume the rotating presidency of the AU during the 38th ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of this body, scheduled for 15 and 16 February.

João Lourenço has already said that political instability, wars and terrorism are phenomena that hinder the socioeconomic development of Africa, ensuring dialogue for the pacification of the continent during the Angolan presidency of the AU.
