"The National Consumer Price Index registered a variation of 1.67 percent from December 2024 to January 2025", reads the INE statement, which shows a slight slowdown of 0.03 percentage points in the comparison between the monthly variations, from December last year, to January this year.
Comparing prices from January this year with prices from the first month of last year, the INE says that "the annual variation is 26.48 percent, registering an increase of 4.49 percentage points compared to that observed" in January 2024.
The reduction in annual inflation in January marks the sixth consecutive drop, after 16 months in which prices were always rising, and represents the lowest rate since March 2024, according to data from the INE.
