The signing of the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the company China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC) was authorized in a dispatch signed by the President, João Lourenço, dated Monday and consulted this Wednesday by Lusa.
The agreement provides for coverage of 85 percent of the value for the purchase of this military equipment and resources, not specified in the decree.
The document points out that the authorization arises from the need to sign Individual Financing Agreements under the Framework Agreement signed between the Republic of Angola and CATIC, approved by Presidential Order of June 15, 2021.
According to a study by Boston University, between 2000 and 2022, China lent Angola a total of 45 billion dollars, a quarter of the amount granted by China to Africa in this period, the most recent being granted in 2022 by the state-owned defense company for aerial technology (CATIC), in the amount of 18.6 million dollars for the acquisition of military equipment, goods and services for the Air Force.
