A sabotage action on the Luanda Railway (CFL) line this Monday caused the temporary stoppage, at Catete station, of the train transporting gas to Malanje province, the company said.

According to CFL spokesperson Augusto Osório, they were removed by unidentified individuals who fixed the railway line, which led the convoy, with 10 gas wagons, to be stranded in the Maria Teresa area, Icolo e Bengo municipality.

"The situation that conditioned the circulation of the gas transport convoy to Malanje is over," said Augusto Osório, speaking to Angolan public radio, noting that a technical team has already re-fixed the line and the convoy has resumed its normal course.

Augusto Osório stressed that the train is in the interior of the province of Cuanza Norte in the direction of Malanje, following the normal route.

The CFL spokesperson lamented "the level of vandalism and sabotage to which the Luanda Railway is subject".

"Authentic bandits, authentic acts of terrorism, which, if not controlled, quickly, these denounced and detained individuals, could lead to more serious situations, from the point of view of what is the preservation of public goods", he stressed.

The official said it is a situation that worries, but that "will not condition the return to normality in the CFL".

"We are going to continue, today it is the gas train, the general cargo train follows, the passenger train comes and naturally we will continue with normality", he stressed.

This Monday's train marked the resumption of the railway connection between the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Malanje, after being interrupted for seven days, due to a derailment, which damaged about 150 meters of the railway line and the spillage of two of the 14 tank wagons with 600 cubic meters of diesel, for the province of Malanje.
