Claudino Tavares, the pilot's father and agent, in statements to Jornal de Angola, explained that Ray Tavares was invited by the portuguese promoter Victor Leitão to participate in the Open, after his performance in the Portuguese Cup last year.
"It was an invitation from Victor Leitão and other Portuguese karting schools", revealed the agent, indicating that alongside the Open, the young driver will also compete in the Portuguese Championship and the Portuguese Cup, among others. "All this until the end of September," he added.
According to Jornal de Angola, the scarcity of official karting events, due to the pandemic, has worried the Angolan's father and agent, who has been trying to find solutions to keep Ray Tavares on the tracks. Thus, the 14-year-old has been running in countries such as Portugal, South Africa and France.
In addition, sponsorships have also become a headache, and the expenses have mostly been borne by the Angolan's father, family and friends, he said.
"We've been knocking some doors, they make us promises they show interest, but the truth is that at the last moment they disappear. I know that there are people behind these withdrawals from potential sponsors, but as long as I can, I'll do everything to see my son compete", added Claudino Tavares.
