Emanuel Moreira Carneiro, former Angolan minister, died in Lisbon

Former Angolan minister Emanuel Moreira Carneiro died of illness in Lisbon, the Angolan embassy in Portugal announced this Tuesday, expressing "consternation and pain for the irreparable loss".

"It was with great sadness that I learned of the death, due to illness, of your husband, Dr. Emanuel Moreira Carneiro, an illustrious former member of the Angolan Government, in which he held several positions and a distinguished university professor", wrote the ambassador of Angola, Carlos Alberto Fonseca, in a note posted on the embassy website.

"In this moment of consternation and pain for the irreparable loss, we remember his remarkable and gratifying dedication to academic life and his recognized performance, at the service of the Angolan State, marking with his contribution the course of the country's economic history", added the ambassador. .

Emanuel Moreira Carneiro died on Tuesday in Lisbon, a victim of illness.

In another reaction, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) stated that "the death of comrade Emanuel Moreira Carneiro constitutes the loss of an eminent figure and, through misfortune, bows to the memory of the deceased, sending my deepest condolences to the bereaved family".

Between 1991 and 1999, he held government functions in Luanda, successively occupying the positions of deputy minister of planning, minister of planning, minister of commerce, minister of finance and minister of planning, according to the press release.

The former ruler was also a university professor from 2003 to 2007, at the Catholic University of Angola and the Lusíada University of Luanda, having also held, from 2007 to 2015, the position of director-general of the Higher Institute of Social Sciences and International Relations, in Luanda.
