Government predicts growth of about 2.4 percent of the economy

The Government foresees a recovery of the national economy, estimating a growth of around 2.4 percent in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year.

According to Manuel Nunes Júnior, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, the forecasts are based on the development of the oil and gas sectors as well as the non-oil sector: "Our forecasts stem from a growth in the oil and gas sectors, by 1.3 percent, and non-oil by 3.1 percent".

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the presentation session of the Roadmap for the Reform of the Public Business Sector (SEP), Manuel Nunes Júnior considered that restructuring the business sector could help to meet the challenges of changes in the economic structure.

Cited by Angop, the minister also referred that the roadmap will be implemented in four years and during this time there should be greater commitment so that the planned actions are implemented.

Manuel Nunes Júnior also made it known that "the roadmap for the reform was approved in January this year and aims to accelerate the reforms to be introduced" in the public business fabric. With the roadmap, "it will be possible to increase the gains from the privatization program that has been underway in the country since 2019," he added.

The purpose is to make the State's assets profitable, "in a market logic", continuing to take into account the provision of essential public services to the population.

Still on the reforms, Manuel Nunes Júnior indicated that the country wants to build a real market economy, efficient, competitive and that has the private sector as an engine, writes Angop.

For this, the State must offer political and macroeconomic stability with interest rates, exchange rates and inflation that meet the economic growth target.

Scientific and technological knowledge, protection of private property, ease of creating companies, among others, are other tasks of the State.

"These are essentially the tasks of the State. The rest must be left to the private sector, which in a competitive environment will ensure that the production of goods and services in the economy is done in an efficient and innovative way, for the benefit of consumers", he considered, quoted by Angop.
