Lunda Norte: activists denounce death of young man shot by men in military uniform

A young man was fatally shot on Monday by alleged elements of the Angolan Armed Forces, who wore military uniforms, in the village of Cafunfo, denounced activists.

:

According to information provided by the civic activist Laura Macedo on her Facebook page, the young man was shot in the head at around 6:30 pm on Monday, when he was traveling by motorbike with a friend in the village of Minas Gerais, which was the stage, recently, of a conflict with security forces resulting in an undetermined number of deaths and injuries.

Speaking to Lusa, a Cafunfo activist, who requested anonymity, revealed that the other young man was hit in the leg and taken to the regional hospital in Cafunfo.

The information was confirmed to Lusa by a neighbor of the mortal victim.

Lusa contacted the spokesman for the interior ministry of Lunda Norte who forwarded clarifications to later.

Last Saturday, January 30, according to the police, about 300 people linked to the Portuguese Protectorate Movement Lunda Tchokwe (MPPLT), which has been defending the autonomy of that region for years, tried to invade a police station, forcing the orderly forces to defend up, causing six deaths

The police version is contradicted by MPPLT leaders, opposition political parties and local civil society, who speak of at least 25 more dead and claim that it was an attempted demonstration, previously reported to the authorities, and that the demonstrators were unarmed
