Francisco Queiroz intervened in the launching of the partnership project between the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and the International Organization for Migrants (IOM) on human trafficking.

According to the Minister, the strengthening of the diagnostic work is essential to assess the real dimension of this phenomenon, so that it does not reach alarming proportions that jeopardize national security, emphasizing that its combat is within the priorities of the Executive.

"The fight against human trafficking is part of the National Strategy of Human Rights and is aligned with the United Nations Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development and other international instruments to which Angola is a party, such as the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocol, which aim to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children," he said.

The holder of the Justice and Human Rights portfolio said that the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking in Angola aims to counter the criminal action of the use of children for forced labor in sectors such as agriculture, diamond mining, construction and domestic services.

The same plan also prevents sexual abuse of men, women and children.

About the partnership project between Angola and IOM, in combating human trafficking and protecting victims, Francisco Queiroz advanced that it has a financial framework to accelerate the mechanisms of protection for victims and rehabilitation of reception centers, to provide them with adequate conditions of protection, legal, medical and psychological services, screening of vulnerable populations and social support services.

According to the Minister, the fight against human trafficking does not only mean punishing the traffickers, but a multidisciplinary challenge that places protection and assistance to victims at the heart of actions.

Special attention must be given to the trafficking of minors, defended the government, as they are particularly vulnerable.

The minister thanked the support of the US government, which funded the IOM, to give its support in the implementation of Angola's commitment to combat human trafficking.
