Covid-19: country records 37 new cases, one death and five recoveries

The country has recorded 37 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, as well as one covid-19-associated death and five more recovered patients, local health officials said.

According to the latest epidemiological bulletin, 25 cases were reported in Luanda, six in Benguela, four in Namibe, one in Malanje and one in Uige, with ages between 3 and 64 years, 28 males and nine females.

In the same period there was one death in Huíla province (a 58 year-old Angolan) and five people recovered from the disease.

The laboratories processed 1878 samples by RT-PCR, out of a total of 379,445 samples processed.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Angola totals 20,366 cases, 18,795 recoveries, 1079 active infections, and 492 deaths.

There are 168 patients hospitalized and 25 people are in institutional quarantine, and there are 1822 contacts under epidemiological surveillance.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,394,541 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 108.5 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
