Covid-19: country reports 51 new cases and 23 recovered patients

The country reported in the last 24 hours another 51 cases of covid-19 and 23 recoveries, without accounting for any deaths, health officials said.

The infections were recorded in Luanda (32), Huambo (11), Benguela (3), Zaire (3), Bié (1) and Lunda Sul (1), with ages ranging from 7 months to 75 years, 30 males and 21 females, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health released this Thursday.

The 23 recovered patients are between 8 and 69 years old.

Laboratories processed 1168 samples by RT-PCR in this period, for a total of 373,378 tests, with a positivity rate of 5.4 percent.

The country has 20,261 cases since the pandemic began, of which 487 have died, 18,710 have recovered from the disease, and 1604 are under treatment (including eight critically ill and six critically ill).

The country also counts 165 hospitalized patients and 118 people in institutional quarantine.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,355,410 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 107.3 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
