Covid-19: Africa with 552 more dead and 15,596 infected in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded 552 more deaths from covid-19 for a total of 91,006 deaths, and 15,596 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected in the 55 member states of the organization is 3,567,552 and the number of recovered was 18,522, for a total of 3,052. 143 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,703,391 infected and 48,902 dead. South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,453,761 cases and 44,164 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,088,546 infected and 29,570 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 361,531 infections and 6856 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 326,292 and that of deaths is 4074. In Central Africa, there are 87,792 cases and 1604 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 9316 deaths and 165,951 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8275 fatalities and 471,157 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are Algeria, with 2893 deaths and 107,247 cases, Ethiopia, with 2093 fatalities and 137,650 infections, and Kenya, with 1763 deaths and 100,773 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola has 466 deaths and 19,796 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (367 deaths and 38,654 cases), Cape Verde (134 deaths and 14,070 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5534 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (45 dead and 2635 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1256 cases of infection).
