Authorities condemn resale of free school supplies

The Ministry of Education warned this Tuesday about the resale of primary school textbooks, which are being distributed free of charge, and asked for the "reinforcement" of the actions of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).

"Another problem that we have been experiencing is the marketing of the material on the parallel market, but in truth this material does not come from the Ministry of Education," said this Tuesday the Secretary of State for Education, Pacheco Francisco.

According to the president, who was speaking at a press conference, the possibility of marketing the 37.7 million primary school textbooks, produced in South Africa for the 2020 school year, "is very low due to their codification".

The state spent 16.3 billion kwanzas on the production of textbooks for primary education and in Braille for special education.

However, despite the fact that textbooks are free under the law, the marketing of these textbooks is visible on the parallel market, a situation "repudiated" by the authorities who ask for the cooperation of the education authorities in the denunciation and supervision of SIC.

"Regarding the work that SIC has been doing, it is its responsibility, because the material that has been produced for all primary school children and we want the collaboration of parents on complaints about the sale of free school material," he said.

The Secretary of State for Pre-school Education admitted that those in charge of the sector also "need to find out the origin of the leaking manuals" for the informal market.

"If they are produced here, we need this information because the material is free and cannot be sold," he said.
