Minister highlights country change in relations with journalists

The Minister of Social Communication, Nuno Caldas Albino, told Lusa that the Government is extending to the media a “paradigm of transparency” that allows greater democracy in access for all sectors of society.

:

"We cannot say that there is no other constraint in relation to one or another journalist, but the relationship environment that exists between the Angolan State with journalists has improved substantially," said Nuno Caldas Albino, in an interview with Lusa, in Lisbon, whereas there is more plurality of opinions in the bodies themselves.

Currently, "there is more openness, more integration, from all spheres of political life and civil society in Angolan public media, whether on television or radio", he defended.

Appointed in October, Nuno Caldas Albino said that the Government has given importance to openness in the relationship with the media, mainly in the context of a “new governance paradigm” based on the “pillars of transparency and good governance”.

For this, it is necessary that the media allow a "greater proximity" between the "governing class" and "a strong civil society that has also contributed in a constructive way" to democratic growth, explained the minister, who is this week in Portugal accompanied by the main officials of Angolan public media agencies.

For the minister, the fight for government transparency on the part of João Lourenço's executive also contemplates “a greater expression of the media” that contributes to “the renewal of the democratic and legal state”.

However, Nuno Caldas Albino warned of the need for each journalist "to fulfill his role in the procedures of the law and the Constitution".

"Journalists must comply with the law, they must comply with the rules established by the organs of the State, the autonomous bodies so that in fact we can walk together in a correct and transparent way", he warned.

During the visit to Lisbon, the Angolan delegation wants to “reinforce and strengthen cooperation relations with Portugal, more essentially with public and some private media organizations”, particularly in the area of “digital communication”.

In the meetings he already had, the minister pointed out that the “opening has been very favorable” to increase cooperation.
