PR visits rehabilitated textile factory. Clothing imports cost 170 million in 2019

This Wednesday João Lourenço visited the Textang II factory in Luanda, which is part of the recovery package for the country's three main textile units. Taking advantage of the occasion, the Secretary of State for Industry said that in the last year alone Angola spent 170 million dollars on imported clothing.

Ivan do Prado also said that, with the planned rehabilitation of the country's three main textile factories - Textang II, Satec and Alassola - there will be conditions for the production of 20 million pieces of clothing per year.

With support of 1.2 billion dollars from Japanese financing, industrial units began rehabilitation some time ago.

The ‘Nova’ Textang II, located in Cazenga, was the target of an investment of 235 million dollars that was used in the rehabilitation of infrastructures, hiring of personnel and purchase of equipment, says Angop.

After being handed over, together with the other two units, to private companies, in June of this year the Attorney General's Office (PGR) proceeded with his arrest, in the face of irregularities in the process and non-compliance.

Now, the President of the Republic, scheduled for this Wednesday a visit to the company of Cazenga, in order to know “in detail” the operation of the unit, said the Secretary for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs of the President of the Republic, Luís Fernando, at a press conference.

João Lourenço received technical explanations from the infrastructure managers, going through the warehouses and the entire production process of the fabric (cotton treatment, spinning, weaving, washing and dyeing).

The recently rehabilitated Textang II has a monthly production capacity in the order of 250 thousand linear meters of fabric.
