Angola evaluates oil potential of almost 600 square kilometres of inland basins

The National Petroleum and Gas Agency (ANPG) is assessing the oil potential of basins in four provinces, in an area of about 600 thousand square kilometers, was announced this Thursday.

:

According to ANPG President Jerónimo Paulino, who was speaking during a conference to assess the agency's first year of activity, the basins are located in the provinces of Cunene, Cuando Cubango and part of the regions of Moxico and Malanje.

Jerónimo Paulino said that this task, which should be completed by 2022, takes place in "new, never explored areas".

"About ten years ago we carried out geophysical aerial studies and these studies have already been interpreted and demonstrate the possibility of potential. Measuring the possibility of potential has to do with the thickness of sediments and there is enough thickness to generate oil," he said in statements to the press.

The PCA of the national oil concessionaire stressed that the second phase is now beginning, which will be work to collect information in the field, to then make a final assessment and define whether there is potential or not.

"In fact, some time ago we had information from people that in areas of Lower Cassanje (Malanje province) were whitewashing houses with oil taken from a lagoon, for us this is a good indication", he said.
