Case '500 million': lack of clarification by BCS leads court to suspend session

The trial session of the '500 Million' Case, scheduled for this Thursday, has been suspended. The court has decided to adjourn the session until it receives the replies of the Swiss Credit Bank (BCS).

:

The decision was handed down by João da Cruz Pitra, judge-president of the Common Crimes Chamber of the Supreme Court, who, according to the newspaper Opaís, will await the replies of the Swiss Credit Bank to the letter rogatory that the court sent to the bank, based in London.

The new trial session is scheduled for 10 March, where the bank's replies will be analysed and the final allegations will also be presented.

The '500 million' case, as it is already known, involves a supposed transfer of 500 million dollars from the National Bank of Angola to the account of a ghost company, based in a British bank, in September 2017, to finance an operation linked to the creation of a strategic fund.

The defendants - José Filomeno "Zenu" dos Santos, Jorge Gaudens, Valter Filipe and António Samalia Bule - are accused of the crimes of embezzlement, fraud, money laundering and influence peddling.
