Government disburses 1.1 million and chooses Odebrecht to build railway link between Luena and Saurimo

Brazilian construction company Odebrecht was chosen to build the rail link between Luena and Saurimo. It is expected that construction of the project – which will allow the provinces of Moxico and Lunda Sul to be linked by 260 kilometers of railway line, through the Caminho-de-Ferro de Benguela (CFB) – will begin this year, in a undertaking that will cost around 1.1 million dollars for the State.

The information comes from Daniel Neto, governor of the province of Lunda Sul, who, although he did not specify a date for the start of the work, assured that the project has already received authorization through a presidential decree.

According to the provincial governor, cited by Angop, preliminary work to build the railway connection, such as the environmental impact study, demining, survey of the locations where the stations will be built, among others, has already begun.

Daniel Neto also highlighted that carrying out the project will boost the region's socioeconomic progress, considering the relevance of the CFB.

Still in the field of infrastructure, the governor of Lunda Sul said that, during the first three months of 2025, National Road 230 will be made available to citizens, on the stretch between Saurimo and Malanje, covering a length of 557 kilometers.

The official added that some completion work is still underway with the Saurimo ring road, which only needs signage, and committed to working so that the municipal headquarters are connected by paved roads, simplifying mobility.

According to Angop, at the moment, the municipal headquarters of Dala and Cacolo are already connected to Saurimo with paved roads, leaving Muconda and the new municipalities established with the new political-administrative division of the country.
